IsrA.L.S. , a non-profit organization, was founded to promote research in Israel into the disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (A.L.S.), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Isr.A.L.S. was established in March 2004, inspired by the personal story of Galia Nes, whose father was diagnosed with A.L.S.. Galia published her personal thoughts about her father’s disease and her feelings of frustration that not enough was being to combat the disease in Israel. She felt helpless as she watched her father's condition degenerate daily and concluded that the honest truth, as cruel as it sounded, was that there was simply not enough money being put into A.L.S. research.
David Cohen, who has been living with A.L.S. since May 2003 and personally feels the intense effects of the disease, felt immediate solidarity with Galia, both as a father of three children and as one afflicted with the disease.
Since it is not in David's nature to take anything for granted, he decided to take action by founding the IsrA.L.S. association to provide hope for A.L.S. patients in Israel and around the world.
David's confidence in Israeli scientists who are at the forefront of medical research in the world, is what led him to establish an association that would raise money for research into A.L.S. in Israel.
David’s enthusiasm for this concept was contagious. Soon, a group of wonderful people, across the world joined David to volunteer their time and energy for this noble cause and IsrA.L.S. became a reality.
